Summary

"Strife: A Drama in Three Acts" by John Galsworthy is a play unfolds during a harsh winter strike at the Trenartha Tin Plate Works, where a fierce battle plays out between the company's directors and the determined workers. At the heart of the discord are John Anthony, the unyielding chairman of the board, and David Roberts, the fervent voice of the striking laborers. The story grapples with class warfare, the tough moral questions raised by labor disputes, and the toll taken on people caught in the middle. As the play begins, the atmosphere is thick with the tension of the prolonged strike as the board members meet to argue about their next steps regarding the worker's demands. As John Anthony stubbornly refuses to yield, other directors voice their concerns about the strike's effect of the company's finances. The arrival of Simon Harness and David Roberts underscore the worker's needs. The conflicting interests of capital and labor set the scene for a intense test of loyalty and of human kindness.
