Summary

"Mam' Linda" by Will N. Harben is a story that happens in a small Southern town, where the characters face hard choices related to race and social class. The main character, Carson Dwight, is a young lawyer trying to do what's right in local politics, even when it's not popular. He wants to help African Americans, especially after a black man named Pete is hurt. The town is tense after an attack on the black neighborhood, and Carson has to deal with pressure from his family, the rich people in town, and others who don't agree with him. The story gets even more emotional when we meet Mam' Linda, Pete's mother, who is very upset about what happened to her son. The story starts by showing us the problems and challenges of trying to stand up for what's right when everyone else disagrees.
