Harold the Klansman

"Harold the Klansman" by George Alfred Brown is a story set in an American town grappling with the rise of the Ku Klux Klan, where we are introduced to Ruth Babcock, a tough young woman who is trying to take care of her dad and searching for ways to improve the lives of her and her family. As Ruth deals with her dad's health issues and their money problems, the community is getting pulled apart by the Klan, forcing Ruth to think about where she stands on community values, civil rights, and her own beliefs during a difficult time.
