Summary

"The Fugitive: A Play in Four Acts" by John Galsworthy is a compelling play set in the early 1900s that examines the troubled marriage between Clare Dedmond and her husband, George. The story begins with Clare’s sudden departure, causing concern and suspicion among George and his parents, particularly regarding her connection with a literary figure named Malise. Clare feels confined and trapped in her marriage, longing for personal freedom and self-discovery, viewing her home life as a kind of prison. The play masterfully highlights the friction between societal norms and individual happiness, along with the intense desire for authentic relationships.
