Summary

"Esther's Charge: A Story for Girls" by Evelyn Everett-Green is a tale set in the late 1800s that centers on a young girl named Esther who has to step up and take charge of her family after her father passes away. She finds out her two cousins, Philip and Percy, are coming to live with them, which brings a whole new level of excitement to her orderly life. At first, Esther’s mom is worried about the boys coming, but Esther is ready to help and even handle their schooling. The story shows how different Esther's quiet life is from the lively energy the boys bring, especially since she's also nervous about a family friend named Mr. Trelawny. As she gets ready for the boys, Esther thinks about all the challenges and changes ahead, hinting at how she'll grow and adapt to the noisy, unpredictable world they create.
