Summary

"Tom Tufton's Travels" by Evelyn Everett-Green is a historical fiction novel focused on the life of young Tom Tufton, a somewhat wild young man who is about to inherit his family's estate. The novel looks at Tom’s journey into adulthood. At the beginning of the story, Tom's father, Squire Tufton, is passing away, and he is concerned about his son's immature actions. Even though his sister, Rachel, is optimistic about their father’s health, the Squire is more focused on ensuring Tom will find his way in the world. With his father's encouragement, Tom starts on a journey to gain understanding of the world. This leads Tom away from his home, Gablehurst, to new places such as London, full of trials and experiences that will test who he is as a person.
