"A Clerk of Oxford, and His Adventures in the Barons' War" by Evelyn Everett-Green is a story set in a medieval and warring time, about a young man named Leofric who leaves his old life behind after his father dies, and starts a journey to Oxford to become a scholar. Feeling sad but hopeful, Leofric says goodbye to Father Ambrose, who suggests studying in Oxford, and prepares for his journey, even though he doesn't have much money; reflecting on what he already knows, he heads toward a world filled with both learning and disorder, where he will seek to fulfill his dreams and grow up during a time of huge change.
