Peggy Stewart at School

"Peggy Stewart at School" by Gabrielle E. Jackson is a story from the early 1900s about a fifteen-year-old girl named Peggy Stewart, as she faces tricky teen situations with her family and the arrival of her Aunt Peyton Stewart. Set in Severndale, Maryland, old family ties begin to fall apart as Peggy's aunt comes to stay with them. When Peggy wakes up at the start of a lovely September day, she welcomes her aunt, who has come to live at Severndale. The calm, but restrictive, feeling of the house grows as time-honored family habits are upset by the aunt's strong personality. Through Peggy's eyes, the reader sees how uncomfortable she is with her aunt acting like she knows everything. She starts to feel the pressure of being the lady of the house. This puts a strain on her relationships with family members, and the good servants who have looked after her since she was little. Peggy must find her way through these growing problems and fights.
