Summary

"Jane Lends A Hand" by Shirley Watkins is a story set in the early 1900s that follows the Lambert family after they learn about a death in the family. Jane, a brave and energetic young girl, deals with her normal life while also getting used to her cousin, Paul Winkler, coming to live with them. The book starts with Jane waking up on a cold October morning, showing how different her strict dad is from her kind mom. The reader is introduced to the active Lambert home, where Jane's playfulness often causes problems with her family. Things change when a letter comes saying that Jane's cousin, Paul, will live with them after his father dies. The family has different feelings about Paul coming, and Jane, who is curious, looks forward to the adventures that Paul will bring to her life.
