"Dorothy at Oak Knowe" by Evelyn Raymond is a story about a young girl named Dorothy Calvert who finds herself at a new school in Canada called Oak Knowe after traveling alone. Her journey starts off rocky, as she gets lost and meets some unusual people, setting the stage for what's to come at the school. When she shows up at the Toronto railway station, the person who's supposed to meet her isn't there, making her feel scared and alone. Luckily, she meets a nice old man named John Gilpin who helps her out, and they head toward her new school together. Right away, we see that Dorothy is brave but also a little fragile, suggesting that she'll face both problems and make friends as she learns to live in this new place, meeting interesting people and having experiences that could change her life.
