Journey Work

"Journey Work" by Dave Dryfoos is a science fiction story about growing old in a future that doesn't value the elderly. The main character, Ollie Hollveg, is a 70-year-old tomato picker considered useless by society. After getting in trouble with a rancher, Ollie hears about a risky job that only wants older men. He tries to sneak onto a train to get there, but instead, he's chosen for a special mission: space travel. This surprise opportunity gives him a new sense of purpose and adventure, showing that even in a fast-changing world, experience and resilience matter.
