Summary

"Five Children and It" by E. Nesbit is a novel about five siblings named Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane, and the Baby, who find a magical Sand-fairy while vacationing in the countryside for the summer. Their discovery marks the beginning of extraordinary adventures centered around wishes that frequently lead to comical and challenging outcomes. The story opens with the children's arrival at their new country house, building excitement as they begin to explore their new surroundings and discover new freedoms that differ from life in London. The children soon stumble upon the Psammead, who has the power to grant wishes. Their first wish to be beautiful quickly goes sideways, especially when their baby brother doesn't recognize them because of their transformed appearances. As the story develops, a lighthearted lesson about identity and the strength of family forms throughout their humorous mishaps.
