Summary

"The Northern Light" by E. Werner is a poignant novel that throws readers straight into a world of strained family ties and inner battles. Set against the backdrop of an autumn morning, the narrative shows Major Falkenried, a man wrestling with his past, as he talks with his friend Wallmoden about his son, Hartmut. Raised under the Major’s strict discipline, Hartmut finds himself torn when his mother, Zalika, reappears after years of absence, seeking to rebuild their bond. This unexpected reunion ignites a series of conflicts fueled by duty, love, and the long shadows of previous relationships, setting the stage for escalating tensions and difficult choices that promise to test all involved.
