The Imitation of Earth

"The Imitation of Earth" by James Stamers is a science fiction story that looks at what it means to exist and create. After something bad happens in space, John Shepherd and Doctor Adelitka Wynn wake up in a strange new world. They're no longer human, but plant-like creatures with special powers. They work together, but also compete, to build a new world and new creatures that remind them of Earth and humans. They watch as these new species grow and change, noticing familiar human behaviors, which makes them question life, identity, and existence itself.
