"Subversive" by Mack Reynolds is a science fiction story set in a world grappling with economic rebellion. A future world is turned upside down when nameless bars of soap appear selling for next to nothing which causes a stir due to questionable underground sales conducted by a company called Freer Enterprises. Warren Dickens, a soap salesman with a new brand of bargain soap gains the attention of Frank Tracy from the Bureau of Economic Subversion. As Tracy investigates, he discovers a larger plan led by Moncure threatening the very foundation of their economic structure, forcing Tracy to consider the ethics of protecting a system that might be flawed.
