Dumbwaiter

"Dumbwaiter" by James Stamers is a mid-20th century science fiction story about Sol Jones, a smuggler with a peculiar pet: a diver from Antimony IX that can teleport objects and read minds. The book humorously showcases Sol's attempts to court his girlfriend, Florence, with the unusual creature, which he intends as a wedding gift. Initial fear turns to chaos as Sol's plans backfire, leading to unexpected teleportations and testing their relationship with considerations about the creature's abilities. The story becomes a lighthearted look at love, materialism, and the implications of advanced alien life in everyday situations.
