Summary

"Wilde v Whistler" by Oscar Wilde and James McNeill Whistler is a vibrant and clever back-and-forth made up of written exchanges about art. Set in the early 1900s, this book gives readers a look into the clashing opinions between these famous men through their letters. In this war of words, the role of the artist and what makes good art are questioned, showing the views of both Wilde and Whistler. Wilde argues that beauty is important for artists, while Whistler jokes that ugliness is better, and points out the foolishness of only focusing on beauty in the world.
