Summary

"Jeppe on the Hill; Or, The Transformed Peasant: A Comedy in Five Acts" by Ludvig Holberg is about a peasant named Jeppe who lives a hard life, made worse by his bossy wife and low social standing. Set in the 1700s, the story makes fun of class differences. Jeppe gets tricked into thinking he's now a fancy baron and enjoys the perks of being rich. However, his time in the high life doesn't last. Soon enough, he finds himself in trouble, accused of pretending to be someone he's not. The play is a funny look at how silly social classes can be and shows how power can disappear quickly. Through his ups and downs, Jeppe's journey from a poor farmer to a fake nobleman and then back again makes us laugh while also making us think about the unfairness of society.
