As the story goes on, the made-up characters from Will’s play start mixing with real people from their lives like their grocer and landlady, showing how their tough lives and creative dreams are all mixed together; at first, the play shows the family's struggles and their relationships with a lighthearted tone, hinting that they will overcome the challenges in humorous ways.
