The Overman

"The Overman" by Upton Sinclair is a story about a scientist named Edward who seeks out his brother Daniel, a musician who has secluded himself on a deserted island. When Edward finds Daniel, he realizes his brother has changed into someone who lives beyond the rules of society and experiences a deeper sense of being. The brothers have deep talks about what life means, the value of being alone, and what really makes people happy. Daniel says he's found a better way to live by connecting to a universal awareness that goes beyond what humans normally experience. Even though they're happy to see each other again, Daniel decides to stay on the island, happy with the life he's chosen, while Edward struggles to understand what this isolated existence means for himself.
