Summary

"Next Door Neighbours: A Comedy; In Three Acts" authored by Inchbald, Destouches, and Mercier is a humorous play critiquing the divide between rich and poor back in the 1700s. The play uses funny conversations and interesting people to show the different lives of rich and poor, with the story centrally focusing on Sir George Splendorville whose wealth is as big as his poor choices, eventually leading him to lose everything. Meanwhile, Eleanor and Henry struggle with almost nothing, living in poverty because their father is in jail for not paying his debts; but when George tries to win Eleanor's love, their lives crash into each other amidst misunderstandings and secret romances, revealing family secrets and asking whether being rich is more important than doing good.
