Summary

"According to Plato" by Frank Frankfort Moore is a witty story set in the early 1900s that kicks off with Josephine and Amber chatting about Mr. Richmond, a dreamer who started a Technical School of Literature. Their talk is full of zingers as they consider what makes someone a genius, the troubles of being broke, and whether writing talent can be taught. They ponder their dreams and what society expects from them, revealing their own ambitions and opinions on the literary scene, artistic circles, and whether writing can be a practical career. As they go back and forth on subjects like genius and style, they start to think more deeply about how to approach writing in a world that's all about new ideas in literature, while also hinting at personal connections and social situations, setting the scene for themes of ambition, friendship, and the search for oneself.

About the Author

Frank Frankfort Moore (1855–1931) was an Irish journalist, novelist, dramatist, and poet. He was a Belfast Protestant and a unionist, but his historical fiction during the years of Home Rule agitation did not shy from themes of Irish-Catholic dispossession.
