Remember me, Kama!

"Remember me, Kama!" by Walter Kubilius is a science fiction story from the 1940s, set on the planet Kama, a world suffering because of Earth's greed. It tells the story of Cobber, a tired space captain torn between following orders and doing what's right as the arrival of his ship has caused chaos on the planet because his corrupt ship owner has ignited tribal wars through selfish trades. Faced with the destruction he's helped unleash, Cobber's loyalty shifts to the Kamae, the planet's inhabitants, leading him to make the ultimate sacrifice by destroying his ship to end any futher exploitation of the natives, showing the strength of interspecies friendship and the damage when humanity cares only about what it wants.
