Summary

"A Little Knowledge" by R. R. Winterbotham is a science fiction tale that considers what happens when humanity's reach exceeds its grasp, and the universe evaluates mankind's worth. When Olbu, an alien ambassador from Xvik, arrives on Earth, a televised broadcast reveals his profound concerns regarding humanity's ambition. He fears Earth's potential for galactic disruption, even hinting at humanity's possible removal to ensure universal safety. The story pivots when a shocking revelation emerges: Olbu's home star has exploded, stranding him on the very planet he was sent to judge. The narrative highlights a concern: humanity's inclination toward self-destruction, suggesting that the fate Olbu projected onto humanity may mirror his own civilization's past.
