Summary

"The Confessions of a Well-Meaning Woman" by Stephen McKenna, gives a glimpse into the life of Lady Ann Spenworth, an aristocratic woman, as she deals with family relationships and social expectations in a world on the brink of great change. As she recovers from an operation, Lady Ann reflects on her past, her complex relationships, and what is expected of her in society, her family, and in regards to loyalty. Lady Ann thinks about her son Will’s future and his financial stability and finds herself caught in a mess of family drama, isolated feelings, and social pressures. She struggles to balance her own desires with her commitments and societal expectations of women, with particular attention to marriage and money. The story carefully questions the life of a woman who simply wants to do good, as Lady Ann tries to navigate her life with grace and honor.
