"The Story of Doctor Dolittle" by Hugh Lofting is a charming tale from the early 1900s about John Dolittle, a doctor with a special gift for animals, who decides to treat them instead of people. Living in Puddleby-on-the-Marsh, Doctor Dolittle’s kindness toward animals grows so much that he begins losing his human patients and money. His sister, Sarah, does not appreciate his love for animals. But after having a very important conversation with the Cat’s-meat-Man, Doctor Dolittle learns that animals can talk thanks to his parrot, Polynesia, leading him to become an animal doctor; as time passes, animals from all over come to him for help, which takes him on exciting journeys where his compassion is really the main focus.
