"Missing" by Mrs. Humphry Ward is a story set in the time of World War I, showing the intertwined lives of sisters Bridget and Nelly Cookson and the troubles of love, family, and how war changes everything. Nelly has just married Lieutenant George Sarratt, who is going back to fight, and the sisters have different ideas about love, duty, and what society expects. We meet Nelly and Bridget in the English Lakeland as they wait for George and his new wife to arrive. Bridget seems annoyed, while her sister Nelly is thrilled about her honeymoon.
