Summary

"Children of the Ghetto: A Study of a Peculiar People" by Israel Zangwill is a story that shows what life was like for Jewish immigrants living in London's Ghetto during the early 1900s. The book looks at big ideas like being poor, figuring out who you are, and the importance of community. It shows how the Jewish people dealt with tough situations and prejudice while trying to keep their culture alive in a challenging city environment. We meet Esther Ansell, a young girl who has to get soup for her starving family, and the story shows us the tough streets of the Ghetto, where people are both struggling and helping each other. The book shows how the community comes together despite being poor and the problems they face from society. By looking at Esther's family life and her dad's troubles with providing, Zangwill creates a deep and emotional story with important things to say about society.
