Summary

"Marion Fay: A Novel" by Anthony Trollope is a story set in the late 1800s that looks closely at the wealthy Trafford family and a love that could cause scandal. Lady Frances, a member of the high-class family, falls in love with George Roden, who works at the Post Office, which causes problems because of their different social classes; this love creates disagreements with her parents, particularly the disapproving Marchioness. Adding to the family drama is the main character, the Marquis of Kingsbury, who is disappointed by his nephew Lionel Trafford’s new political beliefs; the book also includes Lord Hampstead; the Marquis’s heir, who is friends with Roden, which makes things even more twisted. This sets up a stage full of social obstacles, family expectations, and the challenging idea of love that questions what society expects.
