Summary

"Rachel Ray" by Anthony Trollope is a story set in a small English town and follows Rachel Ray as she tries to find her way in life, especially when it comes to love and what society expects of her. Rachel's mom and sister, Mrs. Prime, have strong opinions about what's right and wrong, and they're very watchful of Rachel's friendships with young men, like Luke Rowan, who works at the local brewery, and at the beginning we see how Mrs. Ray is kind but her older daughter, Mrs. Prime, is bossy, and how Rachel wants to be independent but faces a lot of limitations from her family, who worry about her behavior and interactions with Luke.

About the Author

Anthony Trollope was an English novelist and civil servant of the Victorian era. Among his best-known works is a series of novels collectively known as the Chronicles of Barsetshire, which revolves around the imaginary county of Barsetshire. He also wrote novels on political, social, and gender issues, and other topical matters.
