"Sweet Content" by Mrs. Molesworth is a book centered around Constantia, or Connie, a young girl grappling with a sheltered existence that's been marked by the earlier loss of her siblings and coming to terms with her self-absorbed nature. Called "Sweet Content" a pet name given to her by her parents, Connie’s idyllic life is upended by the arrival of the Whyte family, her new neighbors. The story displays Connie’s transition from ignorance to awareness as she begins to understand the burden of her parents' past sorrows and the challenges brought on by new relationships and social standings, which all changes her views and expectations of the world.
