John of the Woods

"John of the Woods" by Abbie Farwell Brown is a charming story for young readers, about a brave boy named Gigi who runs away from his harsh life as a tumbler with a Gypsy troupe. Gigi escapes from the cruel beatings of his masters and, with encouragement from a kind stranger, finds his way into a forest where his life takes a magical turn. Here, he meets a gentle hermit who becomes his protector and guide. He encounters many animals and embraces nature, learning kindness and compassion far from the unhappiness of his past, which makes Gigi's journey one of resilience and hope.
