Operation Lorelie

"Operation Lorelie" by William P. Salton is a science fiction story about the challenges that come after a big and destructive war. Set in what's left of a city, the book looks at how people try to stay alive and how war changes them. The main story follows Mark and Jarvis as they go into a ruined city to explore; during their mission, the tension rises as Jarvis's jealousy and strong wanting of a newfound girl leads to him betraying Mark with violence. In the end, the characters are faced with a scary situation that shows the dangers of a world destroyed by fighting, leaving lasting thoughts about what people have to go through to survive.
