Summary

"Robinetta" by Kate Douglas Wiggin, Mary Findlater, Jane Findlater, and Allan McAulay is a story about a young American widow named Robinette Loring, who wants to connect with her English relatives, the de Tracy family. The book looks at what it means to belong, how families matter, and the differences between American and English cultures as Robinette visits Stoke Revel Manor and struggles with her feelings. When Robinette comes to Wittisham, her Aunt de Tracy and Miss Smeardon don't welcome her warmly at the Manor. A plum tree is important because it represents growing and being part of things. Robinette's talks with her aunt show how different she is from her formal relatives. She wants to feel loved and accepted, and talking to the old nurse, Mrs. Prettyman, shows how much she wants to connect with her mother's past and understand it. The beginning sets up Robinette's adventure to find herself and the problems she faces trying to connect her American life with her English background.
