Summary

"The Affair at the Inn" by Kate Douglas Smith Wiggin, Mary Findlater, Jane Findlater, and Allan McAulay is a lighthearted story of social interactions that takes place in a cozy inn nestled in the Dartmoor region of Devonshire. The arrival of Virginia Pomeroy, an energetic American traveler, and her mother, along with the presence of the hypochondriac Mrs. MacGill and the detached Sir Archibald Maxwell Mackenzie, sets the scene for a series of comical encounters. Virginia's desire for interesting company clashes with the reserved nature of her fellow lodgers, especially Sir Archibald, leading to amusing conversations and unexpected connections. Through shared meals and daily interactions, the characters' relationships evolve, revealing the humor in their differing personalities and societal expectations, and exploring how even the most unlikely individuals can find common ground.

Kate Wiggin devoted her adult life to the welfare of children in an era when children were commonly thought of as cheap labor.
