Summary

"The Diary of a Goose Girl" by Kate Douglas Smith Wiggin is a delightful story from the late 1800s that follows a young woman who leaves behind a fancy life for the peace and simplicity of Thornycroft Farm, close to the beautiful Barbury Green. As a self-proclaimed Goose Girl, this character is funny, brave, and loves nature, especially when she's taking care of the geese and other animals on the farm. After arriving in Barbury Green, she shows how charming the village is with its pretty houses, gardens, and lively people. She settles into Thornycroft Farm and meets some interesting characters, including the funny Mrs. Heaven and her family. The starting chapters show how she playfully watches farm life, spends time with the animals, and thinks about her experiences, setting the scene for a lovely look at country living and finding happiness.
