Summary

"A Plucky Girl" by L. T. Meade is a story set in the early 1900s about Westenra Wickham, a young woman whose life is upended when her family loses their money after her father’s passing. Determined to not let this define her, Westenra comes up with a plan to open a boarding house in London to provide for herself and her mom. Even though her mom is unsure about the challenges they'll face and what society will think, Westenra is prepared. She sets out to find a house and asks friends for help, pushing against what people expect of her and testing their loyalty. The story kicks off with Westenra dealing with her new, less privileged circumstances and her determination to stay strong and become independent despite the challenges.
