Summary

"Facino Cane" by Honoré de Balzac is a story filled with ambition, wealth, and chances that slipped away. Set in 19th-century France, it shows the life of an old Venetian nobleman, Marco Facino Cane, who tells a young storyteller about his past life. Facino's life had everything: money, love, and then a big fall that left him poor and blind. Even though he can't see, he remembers everything, especially his love for a woman named Bianca and his need for gold. He talks about his love affair, fighting, and the gold obsession that ruined him. His story mixes sadness with the strong wish to get rich, as he dreams of going back to Venice to find his lost fortune. As he tells his story, we understand how much people want things and how it can lead to sad outcomes.
