Summary

"Casanova's Homecoming" by Arthur Schnitzler is a story happening long ago that looks at the life of Giacomo Casanova, now an older man at 53. He misses his home, Venice, and wants to go back after being away for many years. At the start, we see him thinking about his life and what he really wants, which is just to be home. He remembers exciting times from his past and the people he knew. He meets a young woman named Marcolina, and his old, charming self comes out again. He finds out that Marcolina is hard to impress and already likes a soldier named Lorenzi. The beginning shows Casanova going back to Venice and also hints at bigger ideas like getting older, wanting things, and searching for real friendships in a world that has moved on without him.

About the Author

Arthur Schnitzler was an Austrian author and dramatist. He is considered one of the most significant representatives of Viennese Modernism. Schnitzler’s works, which include psychological dramas and narratives, dissected turn-of-the-century Viennese bourgeois life, making him a sharp and stylistically conscious chronicler of Viennese society around 1900.
