"Peril of the Blue World" by Robert Abernathy, is a science fiction tale from the 1940s about Martians on a mission to Earth who find more than they bargained for. The story follows Shapplo, a Martian interpreter, as his crew investigates Earth for colonization, only to find strange beasts and perplexing societies that shake their understanding of what makes a civilization. Landing in a world teeming with life, they quickly meet Sir Henry de Long, a knight from Earth's medieval past, and through him, they uncover Earth's odd customs, dangerous dragons, and mythical creatures like werewolves and vampires—all leading them to seriously doubt the safety of their endeavor. After grappling with the planet's dangers, they decide Earth is far too risky for Martian settlement, compelling the crew to retreat back to Mars.
