Summary

"Plays by Susan Glaspell" is a composition of plays from the start of the 1900's. The book shares a number of one-act plays, most famously "Trifles," which looks into gender roles, social justice, and how complex life can be with people's experiences. The book of plays is often about women's views and the problems they had in a society run by men, showing their experiences. "Trifles" opens the collection in a dark farmhouse where men, like the County Attorney and Sheriff, look into the murder of John Wright, joined by their wives, Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale, who seem to be in small roles. While the men see household items as not important, the women start to find out true things about Wright’s life and his wife, Minnie’s, feelings. As the men search for proof, the women piece together the story to reveal the reasons behind the crime, showing the theme of understanding against ignorance.
