Summary

"Women" by Booth Tarkington is a story set in the early 1900s that looks at the complex lives of women living in the suburbs. The story begins with a group of women talking about what it means to be a woman, and how society and their husbands expect them to act. One of the women, Mrs. Dodge, wonders why books often focus on the small details of women's lives, instead of big adventures. The book then looks closely at the lives of Mrs. Dodge, Mrs. Cromwell, and Mrs. Battle, as they try to find their place in their marriages and in society, and the expectations that come with being a wife, a mother, and a woman. It shows how their thoughts and choices about marriage, loyalty, and fitting in are all connected to the men in their lives.

In the 1910s and 1920s he was considered the United States' greatest living author. Several of his stories were adapted to film.
