Summary

"Image of the Gods" by Alan Edward Nourse is a science fiction story set on a faraway planet, Baron IV, where human colonists face trouble when Earth's government tries to take over. The colonist's lives are turned upside down when they learn that what they built may be at risk due to a new authoritarian government from Earth led by Captain Varga and Rupert Nathan. Led by Mayor Pete Farnam, they decide to fight back against the pressure to produce more taaro and the oppressive rule of a new governor. Unexpectedly, the planet's native inhabitants, the Dusties, show their true colors by standing with the colonists, proving that friendships can bloom in the unlikeliest of places. The story highlights a tough fight for freedom and how respect can grow between different species.
