Summary

"Daisy Brooks; Or, A Perilous Love" by Laura Jean Libbey, tells the tale of Daisy Brooks, an unassuming girl, and her passionate romance with the affluent Rex Lyon, amidst a world of social status, envy, and affection. Daisy encounters obstacles, notably from the conceited Pluma Hurlhurst, who seeks Rex's attention. The story jumps right into mounting suspense when Basil Hurlhurst arrives with his new wife, at Whitestone Hall under the cover of a stormy evening. His daughter, Pluma, resists her father's new relationship. Daisy lives with Uncle John and Aunt Septima. Quickly, Daisy and Rex first meet and discover love, regardless of hurdles and class differences that may jeopardize their newfound bond. The opposing circumstances surrounding the characters create a foundation for facing societal norms in order to achieve love and chase personal goals.
