Summary

"Wager of Battle: A Tale of Saxon Slavery in Sherwood Forest" by Henry William Herbert is a story set in 12th-century England that brings to life the conflict between Saxons and Normans. The book focuses on two Saxon brothers, Kenric and Eadwulf, who live as slaves under Norman rule and dream of escaping this tough life. The story begins in Sherwood Forest, once a place of freedom now shadowed by Norman control. Kenric, thirsty for liberty, and Eadwulf, more accepting of their fate, await a hunt that is about to change everything. A dramatic event occurs when Kenric protects a noblewoman, Lady Guendolen, from a wild stag, an act that shows his bravery and hints at a chance for freedom, painting a picture of pride and hope struggling against the harsh reality of their oppression.
