Summary

Whistler is a historical fiction novel set in the rough and tumble early Middle Ages, where brave characters deal with tricky politics, royal secrets, and scary Viking invasions. The main character, Wilfrid, who is a young nobleman, meets important royal figures and goes on a journey filled with loyalty, friendship, and the idea of being a hero. At the beginning of the book, a clash of different cultures happens when the Danes show up in Wessex. The queen, Quendritha, is beautiful but mysterious. War and politics pull Wilfrid into dangerous situations and he has to figure out who he can trust, while the story is full of descriptions of nature, feelings, and intense battles, making us care about Wilfrid and his friends, like Ecgbert, and what happens to them.

About the Author

The Reverend Charles Watts Whistler MRCS, LSA, was an English writer of historical fiction, who set his work between 600 and 1100 CE, usually based on early Saxon chronicles, Norse or Danish sagas and archaeological discoveries.
