The Watcher by the Threshold

"The Watcher by the Threshold" by John Buchan is a story set in the early 1900s that follows an intellectual and nature-loving man as he takes a fishing trip to the Scottish Highlands and finds himself surrounded by eerie stories of the Picts and local lore. As his adventure begins across the lonely moorland he is filled with excitement for his holiday, and begins to reflect on the ancient cultures that lived there, particularly the Picts, while momentarily indulging in the simple pleasures of fishing.
