Summary

"A Modern Trio in an Old Town" by Katharine Haviland Taylor is a story about a young woman’s adventure in a new land. Eighteen-year-old Jane Jones leaves her home in Pennsylvania and sails to Florence, Italy, with plans to study piano. Before her ship leaves port, Jane is concerned about her upcoming trip in that her chaperone bails on her, and she will go to the new country by herself. During the voyage, Jane meets a man, Mr. Terrance Wake, who promises to help her in Florence. When Jane arrives, she is enthralled by the culture and beauty of Italy. Things become more interesting when she discovers that her friend, Leslie Parrish, and her friend Viola Harris-Clarke are also at the Pension Dante, where she plans to reside. Jane's journey is about music, friendship, and the discovery of who she wants to be.
