Summary

"A Room with a View" by E. M. Forster is a novel set in the early 1900s about social rules clashing with the desire for freedom. It mainly follows Lucy Honeychurch as she begins to understand love, social expectations, and what she wants while traveling in Italy and England. When Lucy and her cousin Charlotte Bartlett get to a boarding house in Florence, they’re upset because their room doesn’t have the promised view. Lucy really wants to experience Italy, but Charlotte is more careful. They meet Mr. Emerson and his son George, who go against what’s considered proper behavior. They even offer Lucy and Charlotte their rooms. This creates opposition for Lucy, which hints at her progress toward independence.
