"The Lonely Unicorn: A Novel" by Alec Waugh is a story that seems to watch young Roland Whately figure out feelings for girls while dealing with being a schoolboy. Right at the beginning, Roland gets back to school early so he can get the best room and study spot. He thinks about getting on an earlier train, and then he meets an older student named Howard. Roland does something a little wild when he decides to talk to some local girls at a dance. The first few chapters show Roland and his friends meeting these girls, and it seems like there will be some drama and feelings coming up as they try to figure things out.
